2026 Crop Tour - Day 3
Vermilion County, Illinois
Corn in Vermilion County is generally in good condition, although low-lying areas are suffering from excess moisture. It was evident at this stop, as well as across Illinois, that the crop is further behind in maturity than what we observed throughout the western Corn Belt. Yield samples indicated approximately 210 bu/acre, which is similar to last year’s estimate for this same field.
Montgomery County, Indiana
Overall crop conditions in Montgomery County looked strong, and this was one of the better samples we pulled in the area. Some stalks were even producing second ears, showing the field still has solid yield potential. However, low-lying areas are showing damage from surplus moisture earlier in the season, while lighter ground is beginning to display signs of stress. Soybean conditions also appeared weaker than what we observed across central and western Illinois. Yield samples indicated approximately 200 bu/acre, which would be about a 10% decrease for this field compared with 2025.
Putnam County, Ohio
The crop in Putnam County was consistent and showed no noticeable signs of stress. Rainfall has been steady and timely throughout the growing season, helping produce a crop that is currently in excellent condition. Our sample indicated a yield near 220 bu/acre, and the farmer was optimistic about the crop’s overall potential.
Ohio summary
Ohio seems to experience planting delays quite often, and this year appears to be no different. Despite the slower start, the state has historically been able to produce a strong crop. Customers throughout Ohio remain very optimistic about this year’s crop, with no major signs of stress being reported. The samples we pulled showed yield potential similar to last year, if not slightly better. Based on what we observed, we are estimating Ohio’s statewide corn yield at 188 bu/acre.
