15th Stop – White County, IN:
In White County, some of our corn samples showed tip-back and signs of fungal pressure, leading to ear sizes that came in below last year’s. We encountered a wide range in sample quality across fields, but based on what we pulled, a yield estimate in the 190–200 bu/acre range feels appropriate.
16th Stop – Iroquois County, IL:
Crop conditions in Iroquois County showed some clear signs of stress. We noted yellowing in the corn, weed pressure, and overall weaker ear samples compared to last year. This county produced 214 bu/acre in 2024, but it doesn’t look like it will come close to that mark this season. Some fields were uneven, and these were among the weakest samples we’ve collected so far on the tour.
17th Stop – La Salle County, IL:
Illinois samples so far have consistently come in below last year’s levels, and La Salle County was no exception. While the crop isn’t bad by any means, ear sizes suggest yields will be about 10 bushels below last year. A solid crop overall, just not quite at 2024’s level.
18th Stop – Mercer County, IL:
Mercer County delivered strong yields last year, even with limited August rainfall — and this year is shaping up to be just as good, if not better. We pulled some massive ear samples, and the area has benefited from ample July rainfall. All though there are some disease issues and fungal problems in the area. Based on what we saw, a 230 bu/acre yield is definitely within reach.
19th Stop – Cedar County, IA:
Farmers in Cedar County are expecting yields similar to last year, which set a record at 236 bu/acre. While breaking that mark will be tough, it’s still possible with a strong finish to the season. Crop conditions here—and at our last two stops—have been excellent, setting up the potential for another big year.
Indiana Summary
Samples across Indiana were very similar to what we saw last year, with a consistent crop throughout much of the state. While conditions look good overall, it’s hard to make the case for improvement over 2024. A yield around 195 bu/acre feels appropriate. Many local farmers echoed a similar sentiment — a tough start to the
season-likely put a lid on the crop’s full potential.
Illinois Summary
The story of Illinois seemed to be a lot of our samples were 10 bu worse’s than last year. Last year we had them at 220 yield and they came out slightly below that at 217. Late season dryness kind of put a damper on their yields. Our samples on the western part of Illinois were fine but the rest of our samples in the other part of state were worse. With this being in mind we think they will be at a 207, still not a bad crop at all.
